At Skylark Creations LLC, we value your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains what information the BloomEDU wildflower quiz app collects, how we use it, and your rights regarding that data. By using BloomEDU, you agree to the data practices described below.
BloomEDU can be used without creating an account. In guest mode, we store your quiz progress, settings, and observations locally on your device using a generic “guest” identifier. This data remains on your device unless you choose to create an account, at which point it can be synced to our servers.
Creating an account is optional but provides additional benefits like syncing your progress across devices and permanent data backup. When you create an account, we collect your email address and password. The password is stored in a hashed form for security (not in plain text). If you sign in with Apple, we receive your Apple-provided email (which may be a relay email) and a unique Apple user ID. These are used to identify your account.
Guest users must create an account to save plant observations. Once you have an account, you can log plant observations in the app. For each observation you save, we store details like the plant’s common name and scientific name, a reference image URL, and the date/time you observed it. This information helps you track your personal sightings. It is tied to your account and not visible to other users.
We record your quiz progress and performance to personalize your learning. This includes statistics like the number of questions answered, quizzes completed, correct answers, and streaks. We also store your quiz settings/preferences (for example, whether spaced repetition is enabled). For guest users, this data is stored locally on your device. For registered users, this data is synced to our servers for backup and cross-device access. This data allows the app to adapt to your skill level and provide features like spaced repetition learning.
If you use our plant identification aid, you may upload screenshots (for example, from the Seek app) for the app to analyze. These images are processed only to extract plant names and relevant text. We do not retain the images after processing. The content of the screenshots (such as plant names identified) may be saved to your observations if you choose to add them, but the image itself is not stored on our servers.
BloomEDU offers an optional premium subscription that can be purchased with or without creating an account. While we do not collect your payment card details (purchases are handled through Apple’s App Store), we may receive confirmation of your subscription status (e.g. whether you have an active premium entitlement) from our payment partner. We use a third-party service (RevenueCat via react-native-purchases) to manage subscriptions, which assigns an anonymous identifier for tracking premium access. For guest users, this identifier is tied to your device. For registered users, it’s linked to your account, allowing premium features across all your devices.
We do not collect any other personally identifying information (such as your name, address, or phone number) through the app. We also do not knowingly collect any data from children under 13 years old. BloomEDU is intended for general audiences (wildflower enthusiasts) and not directed at kids.
We use the collected information to operate BloomEDU and provide its features. For example, your email and password let you log into your account securely, and your quiz data enables us to track your progress and tailor future quiz questions to your needs. Observation data you input is used to display your personal log of wildflowers you’ve identified.
If you upload plant screenshots for identification, we send those images to our AI service to extract plant names. The resulting plant names are presented back to you and can be added to your observations. This process helps connect your field identifications (e.g. using Seek) with quiz content in our app. We use the images only for this purpose and do not use them for any other analysis beyond identifying the plant names.
We remember your in-app settings (like learning preferences or filtering options) to personalize your experience each time you use BloomEDU. For instance, if you enable spaced repetition, the app uses your past answers to schedule review questions at optimal intervals.
We may use your email to send you service-related notifications, such as account confirmations, important updates to the app or policies, or support responses. We will not use your email for marketing purposes unrelated to BloomEDU without your consent.
Information (like account and usage data) may be used to monitor for suspicious activity or violations of our Terms of Service. For example, we keep hashed passwords and use authentication tokens to protect accounts, and we may review server logs to ensure the system is being used properly and securely.
We do not sell your personal information to third parties. We only share data in the following circumstances:
We use trusted third-party services to operate core features of the app, and your data may be shared with them as needed:
We may disclose information if required to comply with a law, regulation, legal process, or government request. For instance, if authorities properly request user data for a legal matter, we may provide what is legally necessary.
If necessary, we may share data to enforce our Terms of Service or to protect the rights, property, or safety of Skylark Creations, our users, or others. This could include sharing information with law enforcement to investigate fraud or security issues.
If Skylark Creations LLC is involved in a merger, acquisition, or asset sale, user information may be transferred to the new owner as part of that deal. If that happens, we will ensure the successor honors the commitments in this Privacy Policy or notify you if terms change.
Otherwise, the personal and collected data described is used internally and is not shared with advertisers or social networks. BloomEDU does not display third-party ads, so we are not transmitting your data to ad networks.
BloomEDU may display wildflower images and information sourced from external databases or websites (with proper attributions). When the app loads an image from an external URL, your device may send standard technical information (like IP address and request details) to that external server. We have no control over external sites’ data practices. This Privacy Policy applies only to BloomEDU’s handling of your data, so please be aware when following external links (such as attributions) or loading third-party content.
We take precautions to protect your data:
For registered users, all data (accounts, observations, quiz stats, etc.) is stored in a secure MongoDB database in the cloud. For guest users, data is stored locally on your device and is not sent to our servers unless you create an account. We use modern cloud infrastructure, and connections to the database are protected by authentication.
Passwords are hashed and salted before storage. This means we never store your actual password, and we cannot read it – it’s transformed into a secure value. In the event of a database breach, this helps protect your password.
Communications between the app and our server use HTTPS (encrypted web protocols) to prevent eavesdropping. For example, when you log in or upload an observation, the data is encrypted in transit. Similarly, when we communicate with OpenAI or RevenueCat, we use their secure API endpoints.
User accounts are protected by authentication tokens (JWTs). Only after you successfully log in does the app receive a token to access your data. Our server checks this token on each request to ensure it’s really you (and not an unauthorized party) accessing or modifying your information.
Only authorized personnel at Skylark Creations LLC can access user data, and solely for purposes like app maintenance, support, or data integrity tasks. We do not look at your personal observation notes or quiz answers except if necessary to resolve a support issue at your request.
For registered users, we retain your data for as long as your account is active. If you decide to delete your account, we will remove your personal data from our systems. You can delete your account directly in the app (this triggers complete removal of your user record, including all observations and stats, from the database).
For guest users, data is stored locally on your device and persists until you manually clear the app’s data through your device settings or uninstall the app. If you create an account, your guest data will be migrated to your account and then subject to the registered user policies.
We may keep non-personal, aggregated usage data (e.g., total number of questions answered by all users) for analytical purposes, but this data cannot identify you.
Our database may be periodically backed up to prevent data loss. Any backups are stored securely. If you delete your account, we will purge your data from active databases; backups containing your data will expire or be securely destroyed in due course. We will not restore a deleted account’s personal data unless legally required.
We employ industry-standard security measures to safeguard against unauthorized access, such as firewalls, encryption, and regular software updates. However, no method of transmission or storage is 100% secure. Therefore, while we strive to protect your information, we cannot guarantee absolute security. Please understand you use the app at your own risk and take steps to keep your login credentials safe.
You may access your account information and update some of it directly in-app (for example, you can change your email after verifying your password). If any personal information we have is inaccurate, you can correct it via the app or by contacting us.
If you need a copy of the data you’ve provided to BloomEDU (such as your list of observations or quiz stats), you can contact us to request it. We can export your data in a common format.
As noted, you can delete your account at any time through the app’s settings. This will erase your personal data from our database. If you prefer, you may also contact us to request deletion, and we will handle it for you.
We do not send marketing emails, but if we ever introduce them, we will provide a way to opt out. Service-related emails (like password resets or critical notices) are necessary for account administration and cannot be opted out of except by deleting your account.
If the app seeks certain device permissions (e.g. photo library access to select a screenshot), you can control these permissions via your device settings. You can always choose not to use features that require permissions. For instance, you are not obligated to use the screenshot upload feature if you prefer not to send images for AI processing.
If you are a California resident or an EU/EEA user, you may have additional rights under CCPA or GDPR, such as the right to know what categories of data we collect, to object to processing, or to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority. We honor all applicable privacy laws. Please contact us with any such requests, and we will assist you.
We will not discriminate against you for exercising any privacy rights. For example, if you choose to delete data or opt out of certain processing, we will still provide the core app functionality (except insofar as the service relies on that data).
BloomEDU is not intended for children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under the age of 13. If you are under 13, do not create an account or submit any information. If we learn that we have inadvertently collected personal data from a child under 13, we will delete that information as quickly as possible. If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child has provided personal information to us without consent, please contact us so we can take action.
Skylark Creations LLC is based in the United States, and BloomEDU’s servers and databases are likely located in the U.S. (or other jurisdictions with adequate data protection). If you are using the app from outside the U.S., be aware that your information will be transferred to and stored in the United States. We rely on your consent to this transfer, or other legal mechanisms, to lawfully transfer data across borders. We will protect your data in line with this Privacy Policy regardless of where it is processed. Users in the European Union or other regions with data protection laws have the rights described above, and may contact us with any questions or requests regarding their data.
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time as our app or legal requirements change. We will notify you of any material changes by posting the updated policy on our website (or within the app) and updating the “Last updated” date. For significant changes, we may also alert you via email or an in-app notification. We encourage you to review this Privacy Policy periodically. Continued use of BloomEDU after any changes constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.
